Large and multiple files, how do I send these to my designer?

Send the right types of file to your designers.

When working with a designer on your latest brochure, you will probably need to send them multiple and or large image files. How can you do this without clogging up yours and their email accounts with Large Multiple Files?

  1. There are several ways you can do this, these include:
  2. Upload to a project management system, such as Basecamp (these do have file size limits so do check).
  3. Place all the files into a folder and compress the folder, this creates a smaller file size and you can send via email if smaller than 10mb (but you might have to check if the recipient can receive messages of this size).
  4. Copy onto a USB stick and send via the post, if the stick is big enough to contain the file sizes.
  5. Copy all the files onto a portable external flash drive, and send via the post
  6. Transfer the images via an online transfer service such as Wetransfer or Mailbigfile. This is a free service up to a certain file size so you might have to sign up to their paid service if the file sizes you need to transfer are bigger than what is allowed for free.
  7. Upload and share your files via a file hosting service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
  8. Some designers might have an FTP service you can log into and upload the files to.
  9. Use P2P (Peer-to-peer) file sharing software such as uTorrent and BitTorrent. This requires the sender and receiver having the same software installed and a secure connection between the 2 created.

A thing to mention at this point is that it is not advisable to copy and burn files onto a CD as this form of media is being phased out and most modern computers, especially Apple laptops, don’t have built-in CD drives.
