About the report design project.
Spa Communications partnered with us to deliver the visual design and supporting materials for the European Data Centre Association’s State of European Data Centres 2026 report.
This was the second edition of a flagship industry publication, following a strong debut the previous year that attracted more than 1,000 downloads across operators, investors, analysts, and media.
The challenge this time was clear: move beyond a traditional report layout and create something more dynamic, more visual, and better suited to explaining complex, pan-European data at scale. The report needed to work first and foremost as a digital document, while also translating cleanly into print for stakeholders and events. Alongside the main report, the client required supporting materials to promote the launch and direct readers to the full download.
The end result was a confident, data-led report that brought clarity to dense research, aligned with the EUDCA brand without relying on rigid guidelines, and helped position the association as an authoritative voice at a moment when data centres are under growing public and political scrutiny. The client feedback at delivery was extremely positive.
Project scope.
Our role covered the full visual layer of the project. Working from Pb7 Research’s data and Spa Communications’ editorial structure, we designed a new report format that prioritised visual storytelling over conventional chart-heavy pages.
The brief explicitly asked for more imaginative ways to connect datasets and surface insights, avoiding overuse of bar charts in favour of infographics, diagrams, and more narrative-driven layouts.
We developed a flexible design system that could handle everything from high-level summaries to detailed country-by-country data, while staying coherent across an 80+ page document. This included page templates, typographic hierarchy, colour usage, and a set of bespoke infographic styles that could be reused and adapted across sections.
In parallel, we sourced and curated imagery to support the report content, focusing on infrastructure, energy, connectivity, and European geography without drifting into cliché. These images needed to work alongside data rather than compete with it.
To support the report launch, we also designed a one-page printed flyer for events. This acted as a physical touchpoint, summarising key findings and directing readers to the full digital report via clear calls to action.
